Home-maid Mermaid is a clay mask, polished on the front and unfinished on the inside. It has been covered with multiple layers of candle wax, that create at times thin and at times thick and crackling skin. Parts of the wax have been scraped o", like scars, to reveal the raw clay underneath.

The title is a play on words, Home-maid refers to a housemaid but at the same time, it’s pronounced like homemade. Mermaid instead is a mythical creature. Many European folktales record marriages between mermaids and men. In most, the man steals the mermaid’s cap or belt, her comb, or mirror. While the objects are hidden she lives with him; if she finds them she returns at once to the sea.
